Sunday Funday

In March, after living nearly a year in Singapore Mark and I finally broke down and decided to try one of the famous Singapore brunches.  I’m sure Singapore offers a more simple brunch but they are known for some of the most decadent hotel brunches.  The majority of these brunches take place on Sundays and the biggest dilemma will be where to go – The Fullerton, The Hyatt, The Ritz Carlton – oh the decisions!

After polling our group of friends that would also be attending the Brunch, we decided to go with The Ritz.  Many of our friends are experienced “brunchers” and said we would not be disappointed with this choice and, boy, were they right!  The day begins with seating at 11:00am and after that you have until 3:30pm to indulge in as much food and vintage champagne as you possibly can.  Doesn’t sound too hard until you consider the amount of food there for the taking.  A sushi and oyster bar, various other seafood and fresh lobster, salads galore, a whole table full of different sides, roasted duck, roast beef shaved off the leg in front of you, soups, pastas, fresh fruit, eggs/omelets, and the largest selection of cheeses and deserts I’ve ever seen – yeah, you can be in big trouble if you don’t pace yourself!
Our Brunch Group (L to R): Pablo, Conrad, Mark, Niki, Sarah, and Zoe. Not pictured: Julie and Dan.

Case in point, Dan didn't pace himself.

Within our group of 8 (7 adults and 1 child), there were many different strategies on how to conquer the brunch and get our money’s worth. Don’t “waste space” carbs.  Drink first, eat last. Eat first, drink last.  No repeat items.  Mark’s strategy involved filling up on mostly sushi paired with champagne.  The method for my madness revolved around desert and lots of it, although I also had the occasional mojito.
My first course: salad and sides.  My epic fail was the carbs - DARN YOU, PRETZEL ROLL!
Seafood-y course with yummy lobster tail.
Meaty course! This does not show my first ever Yorkshire Pie which I now love!
Deserts, DESERTS, deserts!!!!
I had to repeat this little chocolate gem - not sure what it was but it's what dreams are made of!
Pablo aka The Man with the Method probably enjoyed that most courses and didn't seem as miserable as the rest of us at the end.  We must all copy his strategy next time.
When 3:30pm came and it was time to leave, we were all sure we’d properly enjoyed each food section (although we were still sad to see the meat leg go) as well as great conversation along the way! All-in-all, it was a great experience but one that your waist and your wallet hopes you only enjoy a couple times a year!

Cheers to a great brunch!
